Ryan Villopoto raced to his seventh AMA Supercross victory of the year Saturday night, beating Kevin Windham in front of 44,624 fans at Reliant Stadium.
“I’ve definitely struggled in practice this season. I don’t know why, but I turn it around come race time,” said Villopoto, the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider from Poulsbo, Wash. “It bums me out when I look at the board in practice and I’m not on it, but at end of the night it’s awesome to lead all 20 laps and come out with a win.”
Villopoto is second in the season standings, 12 points behind Ryan Dungey. Dungey finished fifth Saturday night.
Earlier, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Christophe Pourcel, from Groveland, Fla., raced to his fifth AMA Supercross Lites Eastern Regional Championship victory and wrapped up his second consecutive season title in the process.
