AMA-SX: 2010 Toronto results

Ryan Villopoto earned his fourth win in five races as he continues to chip away at Ryan Dungey’s lead in the 2010 AMA Supercross Championship. With rain pouring onto the closed roof of the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada, Villopoto led in all but the opening lap on his way to victory.

The Monster Energy Kawasaki racer took over from Red Bull Honda’s Trey Canard on the second lap and went unchallenged the rest of the way.
“It definitely feels good to win tonight,” says Villopoto, who has five victories this season. “The track was tough. We had lap times of almost a minute, which is big for a typical Supercross track.”

Dungey started the race third behind Villopoto and Canard. The Rockstar Makita Suzuki racer spent much of the first few laps trying to pass Canard, and when he finally succeeded in lap six, Villopoto was already well out of reach. Dungey managed to narrow the gap down to four seconds from seven but had to settle for second. Canard held on for his third consecutive podium appearance.

The series will move on to Dallas on March 20 with Villopoto trailing Dungey by 17 points in the standings. San Manuel Yamaha’s Josh Hill remains within reach with a 37-point deficit, but hasn’t finished on the podium in four races.
