Irvine, Calif. (May 5, 2014) – Monster Energy Kawasaki finished off the 2014 Monster Energy Supercross season in true championship form as Ryan Villopoto along with Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Dean Wilson and Justin Hill all collected wins on Saturday night at Sam Boyd Stadium. Villopoto won his heat race and got off the gate in second place in the main, moved quickly to the front and led all 20 laps of the race. In his second race back from injury, Jake Weimer grabbed the holeshot in the main event and went on to finish eighth after crashing late in the race. In the 250SX West main event, Wilson battled at the front of the field until he forced the issue on Lap 9, out jumping the competition to take the lead and his second win of the season. Right on the heels of the leaders was Hill who finished third in the main event, but the roles reversed in the East/West Shootout with Hill leading all 10 laps to take his second win of the season along with Wilson hot on his tail finishing in second place.

Going Out on Top

After wrapping up his fourth consecutive championship last weekend at MetLife Stadium, this weekend the Champ wanted to go out and make a statement. Villopoto ran away from the competition and led all 20 laps, displaying exactly why he was crowned the champion for the fourth straight season. RV led the last 80 laps of racing on his KX™450F winning the last four main events and seven total for the year.

“The pressure was off this weekend,” said Villopoto. “But we wanted to end on a high note so we could really celebrate. The track was extremely difficult and one little mistake could have put you down hard. The Kawasaki KX™ was near perfect in these conditions and I really want to thank the team for this long hard season.

I can’t believe me and the kawi crew just won our 4th straight sx title! I’m so pumped to add another title to the history books with my name next to it. I’m not gonna lie, it’s really nice not having the pressure on my shoulders of people always asking…can you make it 4? Well, we’ve clinched our 4th and now it’s time to enjoy the last round in vegas and celebrate. This season seemed longer than most, maybe it’s because we had some ups and downs, but we fought through it and achieved the goal we set out to get. 16 rounds into the 17-round series of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship, three-time champ Ryan Villopoto secured his fourth-straight crown in New Jersey after winning the 450 Main Event inside Met-Life Stadium, once again scrawling his name into the history books. His fifth win of the season also marked the 40th of his career, and his wrap-up of the championship sets him alongside only one other racer in history to win four consecutive titles: Jeremy McGrath.

Yet another storied season for Villopoto saw its absolute highs and its damaging lows, but the champ persevered and prevailed over the intense competition in the premier 450 class. With a commanding points lead coming into New Jersey, Villopoto needed only to survive the main event unscathed inside the top 18, but RV2 dominated his heat race, then rolled the momentum into the main event to take the checkered flag when the torches lit. By sealing his championship a full round before the season finale, Villopoto left no doubt of his absolute dominance in Supercross.

Ryan Villopoto is the fastest man on a dirt bike….just check the scoreboard. You are one bad man, Ryan. Congrats!

Seattle was awesome. I was so stoked to get the win in front of my hometown crowd. I had a ton of family and friends there so it was cool to win with all them at the race. Obviously we would of liked to wrap up the championship but we stuck to plan with keeping it consistent and staying up front. Now, I’m going to enjoy the weekend off and get ready for Jersey. – RV2
